Jane Howard - "The Visible Horizon"

Oil on Canvas Paintings

Saint George Island beachscapes and Apalachicola coastal scenes by local artist, Jane Howard, are displayed in such a way as to create a continuous horizon line around the gallery, drawing attention to that theoretical place where the earth meets the sky.

Jane's oil paintings come from close observation and thoughtful examination of how the physical world is put together.  Her work contains a certain intelligence and wit that can only come from years of daily practice and intimate knowledge of her subject.

I am an “amateur” - one led by enjoyment of an activity or subject.  For me, “Look” is just a beginning. Identifying “beauty or “things of interest” makes me want to know how and why? Shape, color, space, how it fits together, light, what it evokes…  I paint things that are meaningful to me. I paint to understand the visual and emotive beauty of the world.
